What You Need to Know about Herpes Remedies.

Herpes is basically a group name of the virus that results in blisters and sores that are often painful. The commonly known is herpes simplex virus. There are actually two types of herpes virus, type I and type II. Type 1 usually cause fever blisters or mouth cold sores while type 2 causes ulcers or sores on genitals. Therefore, type one causes oral herpes and type 2 leads to genital herpes. This virus is spread through close contact.

Basically, herpes type 1 is transmitted when an individual gets into contact with infected saliva. Saliva contact could occur through kissing as well as sharing the same utensils or personal items. Oral herpes is usually linked to mouth, lips, and face infections. Usually, type 2 herpes virus is spread sexually and leads to genital sores. It is, however, possible to transmit genital herpes even without visible symptoms. Nevertheless, when an outbreak occurs, herpes treatment would be necessary.

Some of the signs of herpes are such as mouth sores, enlarged lymph nodes, and fever blisters. The virus may, however, hide in the nervous system and become active once more where there are certain triggers. There are various triggers that would activate herpes virus such as a weakened immunity, stress, surgery, hormonal changes, illness, and certain foods. There are, however, some home remedies for herpes. Some of them include the following.

1. Ice pack.

In this case, you wrap several ice cubes using a plastic bag. The ice pack is then applied to the blister. The cold compresses should be repeated two or three times every day for one week. The reason why an ice pack is a good home remedy for herpes is that it controls swelling and relieves pain. Because of this, the underlying tissues are relieved from pain as well as burning sensation of the blisters.

2. Baking soda.

Because of its many applications, baking soda is a popular home remedy. For the treatment of herpes, mix 2 to 3 teaspoons and one glass of water which is warm. Apply the solution to the blisters using surgical cotton balls. This treatment should be repeated for about 2-3 times a day. However, baking soda produces a soothing effect because it is mild alkaline. Therefore, it offers relief from itching and burning sensation of herpes blisters. Since it is anti-inflammatory agent, baking soda lowers swelling.

Basically, doctors can prescribe antiviral drugs to minimize multiplication of the virus but there is no medication that can cure herpes. To get the required cure for herpes symptoms, home remedies usually provide a good option.
